Physical Chemistry of interfaces

Prerequisites

Basic thermodynamics general course of Physics and of Chemistry basic statistical physics



Objective

Provide chemists and physicists with a working knowledge of surfaces: what are the physical and thermodynamical forces acting at an interface: solid-liquid, solid-gas and liquid-gas



Contents

Mechanical aspects of surface tension: Laplace and Kelvin laws Thermodynamical aspects: Gibbs equation Adsorption on liquid and solid interfaces Langmuir isotherms and BET theory Forces between particles and surfaces; Capillarity; Wetting and dewetting Surfactants
