Title

Constitutional Law

Lecturer

M. Marc UYTTENDAELE

Prerequisites

Students must have a good working knowledge of politics in Belgium, following the news either in the press or in the media

Objective

The objective of this course is to offer students general training in constitutional law and moreover to help them understand institutional mechanisms on both a legal and practical level

Contents

This course provides the opportunity to analyse, on a theoretical level, the notions of State and Constitution. It enables students to subsequently look into the main principles of public law applicable to the whole governmental system, whether it be the federal government, the Regions or the Communities. Particular attention is given to the relations linking up the different federal stakeholders in Belgium and to the control mechanisms behind the whole governmental system. Likewise, the status of subordinate government authorities is looked into

Bibliography

Though not mandatory, it is recommended that the French-language works in the series "Quand droit et politique s'emmêlent" (When law and politics get tangled up) be read. They are published annually by Marc Uyttendaele and Anne Feyt
