The main objective is to give basic notions on research literature to students, including inexperienced or experienced teachers from any subjects or levels of education, who do not have any expertise in the analysis of education systems at a micro level. The aim is to give them tools in order to be able to get familiar with the literature and to be able to use it in their further own analyses

The course treats the analysis of education systems at a « micro » level (whereas the course « Analysis of Education Systems II »), that is to say at the level of a class and of a school. The central concepts concern «school effectiveness» and to «school improvement» and the central questions that lead the course are related to the «teacher effect», «class effect» and «school effect» in the French-speaking Belgian education context and other systems, mainly Europeans and North Americans

This course is made of theoretical lectures by the Professor, presentation of texts from the reading file by students and collective debates of research articles or syntheses. This course is thus equivalent to a seminar

| Assessment |

|
The student must produce a personal synthesis of an article that he will have chosen in the research literature and approved by the Professor. The article will be either in French or English (according to the student's choice) and will be from 10 to 20 pages. The synthesis made of 10 to 15 pages A4, typed, simple line space, times 12, will include, above the summary of the article, a comparison of the chosen text with the documents of the reading file and with the other documents discussed during the course
